Jeff Carter
Chicago based artist Jeff Carter's recent sculptures are built primarily from IKEA furniture, which is associated with affordability, modern design and loaded with a great deal of conceptual content. He alters this mass-produced furniture to create architectural forms that engage with a modernist aesthetic similar to that of the international big-box retailer. He is particularly interested in a Bauhaus design proposal for Chicago's Tribune Tower, which he has repeatedly recreated in three-dimensional models using various recognizable elements from signature IKEA items, often incorporating kinetic/ technolocial elements.
