Jerald Frampton
New York-based artist Jerald Frampton constructs three-dimensional mixed-media collages, implementing cut-outs from photographs that he has taken which he sets up like paper dolls. The resulting works are highly colorful dioramas with the visual drama of a stage production. Most of the tableaux depict urban scenes. Although he normally works with models in his studio, Frampton has at times resorted to using a camera with a telephoto lens to capture candid photographs of random people standing on the sidewalk. These people are then implemented into his set-ups, adding a realistic quality to the miniature scenes.
